It’s undeniable that you will be absolutely blown away by the beauty of the Bungle Bungle. In such an immense national park, with so many incredible sights to see, a lot of visitors find themselves feeling overwhelmed. Taking a guided tour through sections of Purnululu national park can be a great way to simplify your visit to the Bungle Bungle whilst making sure you don’t miss out on any of the best bits. We’ve put together a checklist of the most important things to remember when visiting Purnululu and embarking on a guided tour.

  1. Broad Brimmed Hat

An essential on all bushwalks, a broad brimmed hat will be your best friend when visitng the Bungle Bungle. Not only will this provide full sun protection to your face and neck, but will also provide shade and reduce glare so you are able to fully appreciate the beauty around you.

  1. Comfortable Walking Shoes

With so much to see, there’s no doubt that you will be on your feet for hours on end when exploring Purnululu. The national park has a variety of terrains, and so it’s essential to have sturdy and supportive footwear with excellent grip. We advise against leather-soled shoes, as these can become very slippery around damp rocks or smooth rocky inclines. Rubber-soled trainers are a great option, as they provide grip and support, but are easy enough to slip off if you decide to take a dip in a waterhole.

  1. Sunscreen

Much like our advice to wear a wide-brimmed hat, sun screen is an essential on any Bungle Bungle Guided Tour. There are a range of high protection, water-resistant sunscreens, which are a great option if you intend on swimming in the midst of your exploring, or if you feel as though you may work up a sweat on some of the more difficult walks. There are also sun screens with insect repellent, which can be great towards dusk when mosquitos begin to emerge.

  1. Camera with good battery allowance/storage

We can guarantee that you are going to want to take a fair few snaps of your Purnululu adventure. With such varying terrain and intricate detail within the Bungle Bungle, there are plenty of photo opportunities – and so we highly recommend bringing along a camera with ample storage (especially if you’re taking videos too!), and excellent battery life, to make sure you can take photos of the sunrise as well as the sunset. We think it’s a great idea to bring along an additional camera battery to ensure you don’t miss out on the winning shot!

  1. Light Cotton Clothing

When visiting the Kimberley, you will form a newfound friendship with light-weight, long-sleeved cotton shirts. This new friendship will provide fantastic sun protection whilst allowing airflow, and also allowing movement whilst hiking. These shirts dry off quickly, and provide protection from mosquitos later in the day, so really are an overall winner!

  1. Water Bottle

Everyone knows how important it is to stay hydrated, especially when you are active in warmer weather. It’s essential to bring along at least a full one litre water bottle on any walk in Purnululu. There are limited places to refill water bottles, so we encourage you to bring too much water, rather than too little!

  1. Sunglasses

Sunglasses are a staple when visiting the Bungle Bungle due to the glare generated from the sun reflecting off rocks and sand. There’s nothing worse than squinting in the sunlight when there a thousand amazing views to be seen, and so a trusty pair of sunglasses will keep you comfortable and ensure you don’t miss out on any of the fantastic sights.
